Defining what you should be able and what you shouldn't be able to do with your connection
is not as easy as it might seem. Adding an open relay to one of the public anti-SPAM databases
(such as MAPS RBL or ORBS) might be a better solution in this case, but how about filtering
outgoing traffic containing forged source IP addresses? Some people might consider this
censorship while others (just like me) are quite comfortable with the fact that this stops security
threats such as smurf attacks.
Unfortunately we have to realize the fact that the Internet is changing. It is no longer a network
entirely consisting of people enjoying the advantages of a world-wide IP network - abuse has
become a problem that can't be ignored. I doubt that anyone of you still has guest accounts
on all of his systems in order to allow others to learn from his work.
