No, I do not like spam, and while open relays do not help the situation I believe Gilmore and anyone else who wants to run an open relay should be allowed to. open relays would not be the problem if there were more of an enforcement to a would be law prohibiting the use of open relays for spamming and spamming period. Better software is warranted to keep spammers at bay and to keep the open relays available for those times we want to send mail via smtp without the use of a nasty browser (webmail) just because we are not directly connected to our prefered mail server.

I put my open relay to rest late last year (2000) because I did not want to be blacklisted. Blacklisted, what a messed up NET this is to be blacklisted in the war against spammers and open relays and those who host them. If the network I ran were to be blacklisted and so endured some form of damages (undeliverable mail) I would want some pay back! I would feel the same if in the event my connection were to be filtered or worst, discontinued. I believe the filtering is absolute crap and Verio's blatant disregard for Gilmore's rights should not go checked.

I hope Gilmore is capable of taking this to a higher level and helps forge new protocol regarding open relays. If everyone were to just simply ignore junk email, filtering it out like the rest of us and spent more time dealing with other problems then this open relay matter might not be so bad. how many emails do these 'spamcops' send out regarding open relays and to how many individual email addresses do the pump these them out to? I say blacklist their email addresses/servers as it is my inclination that they are ADDING to the problem more so than they would like to believe.

I say open up the relays and hang the spammers by their necks.
