Fences go up as Net outgrows its innocence
Anick Jesdanun, The Associated Press 2002-12-12

On the Internet, you can learn about virtually anything. You can seek comfort from others similarly afflicted by a rare disease or explore such sensitive topics as birth control.

This article makes some very valid points, and I agree that it seems that the Internet is headed to a more controlled stance. While Internet filters belong in the areas like the work place and schools. It really isn't appropriate for a 12 year old to look up a pron site at school, and business do have to right to limit their employees Internet connections. On the other hand Internet filters should not exist in the public sector. An Internet provider, government, etc. does not have the right to limit your Internet connection. If I'm at home and want to look at an Internet porn site, which I have the legal right to, I shouldn't be limited by my Internet provider simply because that same 12 year old could connect to the same site from home, nor should they have the right to play police officer, if people are downloading copyrighted material form some type of service provider, if someone downloads copyrighted material form Morpheus, its the downloads fault, not Morpheus's. If you want to shut down Morpheus because someone could download copyrighted material, why not also shut down places like geocities and every other free web page provider while your at it because someone can do the same thing their as well. as far as limiting access to pages based on content. Like stop access to hate sites or sites that may criticize a group, religion, race, company, ext. ext ext. there is a such a thing as free speech in the US whether or not I personally agree with it, I do have the right to agree and disagree, but I don't have the right to lock someone in their home simply because I don't want what they have to say out in the world.

thank you.
