I agree...however, not criminally. This would be a punitive damage case. It would be civil. Eventually, said companies would clean their act up.

I'd like to say also, that this comment (the guy who started this thread) is not a troll. I agree with him that people are truly ignorant for the most part. People need to take responsibility for themselves.

The reason the government writes terrible laws on this stuff is because even the government is clueless. They (the law makers) are so ignorant about this kind of technology that they write ridiculous laws to attempt to thwart it. It absolutely baffles me. I picture a bunch of old men sitting around a table in absolute wonderment because 1. they full-well know they don't have a clue and 2. they want to do something about a problem that exists but is so blown out of proportion in their minds due to their ignorance that they completely miss the mark in their attempts at solving a problem with a law.

The DMCA is a different issue, however. This law is an attempt for large corporations to make money illegally. I won't go on with this, however. Let's just say that the DMCA is a lobbyist's dream come true.
