Rumsfeld orders .mil Web lockdown
Kevin Poulsen, SecurityFocus 2003-01-16

U.S. defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld this week directed the armed service to strip military Web sites of information that could benefit adversaries, citing a terrorist training manual and a year-long review of the Department of Defense's 700-gigabyte Web presence.

This is interesting, considering that this page contains a link to the actual DOD message, which displays all kinds of message routing information. This information should have been edited out prior to publication on the web. I don't believe the "public" has any right to sensitive DoD information, and it's getting harder and harder to define what is sensitive in a military context. When it comes to supplying useful information to the enemy, it's best to err on the side of caution. I applaud Sec. Rumsfeld & believe it's overdue.
