Rumsfeld orders .mil Web lockdown
Kevin Poulsen, SecurityFocus 2003-01-16

U.S. defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld this week directed the armed service to strip military Web sites of information that could benefit adversaries, citing a terrorist training manual and a year-long review of the Department of Defense's 700-gigabyte Web presence.

I used to gripe to anyone that would listen (from 1996 when listings started till I left in 2000) that there was way too much information on web sites. The answer I got back was that due to the "Freedom of Information Act" it was just easier to list these bits of info on the site than to make folks request it in writting to the Wing Commander. So naturally I'm very happy to see something finally being done about this lack of "common security sense."
