The simple fact that this bust is so massively hyped and broadcast indicates that the concept of successfully protecting internet resources is new territory for the FBI, otherwise it would not be newsworthy. I called on the FBI 3 years ago to assist me with a Usenet harrassment investigation, and they were completely clueless. If they wish to proceed at the cutting edge they need to pay like the private sector, think like the private sector, and understand the private sector. We all know that its probably hard for them to keep up with new technological developments since they are not privately funded, but the least they could do is refrain from wasting their limited resources targeting the effect and not the cause. I certainly hope they don't handle political terrorism the same way they handle financial and technological terrorism, or I'm moving up into the hills to hide.
