Of slippery slopes and being tired. . .. 2003-02-13
Eric Lee
You know, you "slippery slope" people are just as tiring as the "I have nothing to hide" people. Raising a froth by thrashing about words like "civil liberties" and "erosion of rights" is no different than doing the same by talking about "rooting out evil at its source" and "broad, sweeping powers for law enforcement."

Both sides are polarized into cariacatures of the other.

One thing that self-styled civil libertarians do that police state advocates do not is litigate. Y'all seem to just be ready to sue sue sue once something bad happens, never taking personal responsibility for advocating a system that relies mostly on faith in humanity and non-centralized police forces.

Police state advocates tend more towards personal attacks, mocking the often earnest and generally vulnerable to insult civil libertarians.

I have plenty to hide and I am confident of my ability to do so to a point where I am comfortable with my risk, whatever risks those may be that I choose to take. I recommend you evaluate your risks in the same manner.
