Never lower your values to adapt to a situation that seems to ask for this. It's the same as with terrorrism: when we resort to terror we lower ourselves to using a physical toolset that does not belong to our value system. But it's what the terrorists want, for so we disrupt our own society in a way that could never be done from the outside. So keep Linux open! The open source movement will split up if we don't, and Microsoft has its way.
