I think the National ID cards are a great idea. Although they will not solve every problem they are a step in the right direction. It is all too obvious that authorities need more effective ways to disseminate information between the various departments and infrastructures. We really need to crack down on finding out who is doing what in our country because some people are trying to do very evil things. I believe these cards will aid a great deal in the process. The technology will take a while to perfect but nevertheless I believe it is important. Think of how much trouble we go through to protect data. Humans are not redundant.

As far as the ACLU they have to realize that not everything is theoretical. Obviously like everyone else I believe that our freedoms and rights are what make America great and they must be protected. But who can answer for the rights of the victims on September 11th? There is going to be a compromise between privacy and national security, which I believe is justified in this new day and age. We live in a different America then on September 10th and we obviously must adjust, which I believe we are doing. At any rate care should be taken in developing this system but the safety of the masses should be priority number 1.
