Who needs a firewall for a desktop system? Why not simply ensure that one does not run any unneccessary/insecure services? Firewalls for home/desktop systems are just hype and hysteria, and f.ex. ZoneAlarm is mostly snake oil, as it does NOT, despite claims, offer any real protection against malware. What prevents a trojan from doing whatever it wants to the firewall? Nothing! It's very possible to write a trojan that bypasses most/all "application level" filters. A firewall might very well make matters WORSE by giving the user a false sense of security.
