Use a firewall, go to jail, and send Bill Gates too
John Lettice, The Register 2003-03-28

The (DMCA) Digital Millennium Copyright Act clearly isn't enough for some people. Massachusetts and Texas are - in curious formation - considering bills that will extend it to make firewalls (among other things) illegal.

In response to email being encrpted. It is true that the header is not encrypted. But imagine that you are connected to a corporate VPN and are using that encrypted tunnel to send email out. You are then breaking the law. As a matter of fact all VPN transactions would be illegal. Making a NAT illegal would force all companies to switch to a public IP scheme. Well we are practially out of IP's as it is, and I kow of very few companies actually ready to switch to IPv6. But you either switch or provide internet access to only certain computers on your network, and these would be publicly exposed to the world. Great thinking on the part of the politicians. I suppose you guys would like to pick up the millions of dollars it is going to cost enterprises to upgrade?
