This is a great example of what happens when legislators let special interest lobbyists write the bills. The lobbyists are narrow in their focus, caring only about the interests of their clients, in this case apparently the MPAA, without a care about the public interest in general. The legislators, who should be advocates of the public in general, either don't care about the public, or are not sophisticated enough to understand the implications, and not proactive enough to enlist the help of someone who does.

In an ideal world, legislators who sponsored such stupid legislation would be held accountable. However, that would require an educated and engaged electorate. Doh!!
