I imagine that if Niels himself had not brought it up, NO ONE MAY HAVE KNOWN THE WISER - they would have been far too busy assembling comittees and sub-comittees and luncheons to oust porn-stealing 15-yr-old sattelite pirates in each and every town (coming soon to COPS, tuesdays at eleven, on FOX!!) :P
....but then again, maybe they WOULD HAVE PUT IT TOGETHER....it would all very much depend on the SINGLE STRONGHOLD OF ALL MODERN SOCIETY: Who would stand to make or lose vast amounts of money based on the work reaching the APPLIED stage (where the shit generally hits the fan) If the good guys stand to make, he'd probably be knighted like Sir Sean Connery (ROFL), otherwise: sorry charlie. (1A-145)
well anyway - loopholes in law - this is really a fundamental challenge to everyone! Why do lawyers create laws, instead of say, philosophers, or voters, or maybe schoolgirls? (I added schoolgirls only to make sure this thread hits the most possible BOTS) It's because they OWN the language of it - they created it, they went to university and PAID MONEY to hold a certificate stating that they CAN DO IT, therefore we have come to the situation where lawyers like this are defining things THAT THEY CANNOT POSSIBLY COMPREHEND EVEN DIRECTLY, NEVER MIND THE OUTRAGEOUS LONG-TERM RAMIFICATIONS OF SUCH SAID DEFINITIONS. - sadly though, it's not really the lawyers fault. They have been shown that if you are good and study hard, you can become a lawyer and drive a stinking, polluting, porsche AND an SUV (taking pollution to new heights (that should be JEEP's new tagline)) - THAT, people IS SUCCESS! That is why they became what they became.
What to do?
- the creative capitalist will immediately look to the new legislation and determine exactly how to make money from it, or more accutely - from it's brightly exposed tinkling loopholes, as has been done since the beginning of the written word. Now once again, isn't that something that should be held aloft by our society as what "successful" people do, you know, "harvard types", the money makers. Who drives a Lexus? Why, I'll tell you - its people who believe that such an object represents success instead of failure. Success of a species to ignore it's own starving children and it's life sustaining ecology too. Blame ourselves for our values - bah - I mean really, I NEED a weed free lush, green, lawn, REGARDLESS OF THE COST TO THE WATER SYSTEM - for god's sake...what will the cardboard-cutout, docker's-wearin, big-screen-tv-watchin neighbours think if they see a dandelion (edible BTW) on my lawn!???!!!
Our own absurdity runs deep. Really deep.
ok, i'm obviously getting carried away, but i'm so passionately disturbed by our society's general state!
anyway (again) I see a resolution for Niels' problem: The arbitrators of such absolute created-out-of-fear rubbish are WAY OVER THEIR HEADS, don't you see?? -HE SHOULD FIND SOME OF THE LOOPHOLES AND EXPLOIT THEM TO FREE HIMSELF
To me one irony is immense though, that Niels is an expert on HIDING information - uhhhh, step one in not getting noticed - don't jump up and announce yourself! Sorry, it couldn't be resisted - YES, I do agree with his course of action, it is UNUSUALLY AND EXTRAORDINARILY HONOURABLE compared to most BUT...he is unfortunately only a *participant* in a scheme that allows both honourability and the lack thereof to coexist without question, in fact, one that indeed seems to favour the dishonourable - for example, the case of the economy vs the environment - I am a failure because I must walk to work for I have no car, I am a success because I drive a car. Now kids; Make money, even if you have to kinda....well....lie cheat and steal -that is taught to us from the getgo, just look up at the billboards and see what you can get if you are "successful". Dishonour is revered by business, sought after in a winning CEO, a must-have in any great politician - therefore Niels extreme honour is his own WEAKNESS and he should be doomed to failure by ALL OF US. (note however that he *may* be ACKknowleged to have been correct, but not until 20 years after he is dead and after the movie rights have been secured)
Anyway#3, where was I.... Take note of the loopholes and free yourself....yes. Once again you will find yourself knee-deep in lawyers. Ah yes....there is smallprint (perhaps even a microdot) here - umm, it states that you *may* also be crushed at this point as well, under the immense weight of administration, depending once again on the aformentioned concept about "who stands to make the money blah blah blah" (Ref #1A-145 above)
I feel very sorry for Niels in this hilariously insane situation, we all are involved in it, and I believe in our own tiny withering way, partially responsible for it, however, I deeply regret to inform him that the administration provides no sanctioned discourse at this time and the case will be deferred to #661459-A-995F and called up in 2092 to have some people in funny wigs discuss the semantics of how what he was doing was illegal, and that justice must be done, and be seen to be done.
BTW, I wonder how this new law. will interact with the one about TRADE SECRETS.
Perhaps Niels should just open a business and claim that his techniques are actually.....TRADE SECRETS, then they can once again be legally concealed, and painted with the red white and blue flag of unwavering success for one and all, amen.
Who knows, maybe there is a concealed message in this very text...over to you Niels!
