Over simplified, but I think the point is clear. Look at the starting point of each of these systems.
Now I wouldn't necessarily advocate Unix or Linux to end users, but it's always worth considering. As long as users now how to browse the web open email and access their files they get by just fine. Those are tasks in Linux that can be made very similar to Windows.
