RIAA messaging gambit faces countermeasures
Kevin Poulsen, SecurityFocus 2003-04-30

To the Recording Industry Association of America, sending threatening messages to online music swappers is a potentially effective way to educate the public that trading copyrighted material is wrong. But to security geeks in the file trading community, the technique is just another volley in the electronic war with peer-to-peer opponents... and a rather trivial one at that.

Personally, I think there is no possible way for the RIAA to enforce anti-piracy on the scale they want. Our nations jail / prison systems can't handle the volume of people that would be locked up for copyright infringement, nor can the court system handle the millions of cases that would ensue if the RIAA got permission somehow to issue fines to people suspected of infringement. I agree with the fact that the RIAA needs to find an alternative method of survival - lower their overhead costs! Who ever said that record label owners had to be millionaires and the same for musicians. I thought being a musician was about the music itself, but it ends up being for the money. Sure, musicians need to recover recording costs and make some money from their albums, but I think it's kinda BS that someone can make millions playing music - much the same as all the professional sports players that get 10 million dollar contracts for a season or two with a team, then leave because they want more. YOU COULD RETIRE AFTER A FEW YEARS AND LIVE OFF THE INTEREST!!!! People are just greedy.
