Microsoft pulls software update because of Internet glitches

Microsoft Corp. withdrew a security improvement for its flagship Windows XP software after it crippled Internet connections for some of the 600,000 users who installed it.

Would it be reasonable for either MS or the press to list the update "number" so users can figure out if they have installed it? This article is as useful as a traffic report that warns "a freeway is blocked this morning". The name and direction of the road helps drivers just as the number of this update would inform users.
