The Arcade Underground
Kevin Poulsen, SecurityFocus 2000-07-10

They save Pac Man and Pengo for future generations while ducking the copyright police. Being an arcade archivist is no game.

Of course, if the games industry died, and people made games because they wanted to, then we'd be treated to a shitty deluge of rip-offs, backstabbing each other in a futile effort to be the best, and eventually people would want to start charging just a bit of cash because after all, they worked so very hard to make this wonderful game for you, endured the jeers and taunts of others.

Before saying something as bone stupid as 'this industry should die because I don't want to pay for it', take a basic economics class. The brand new, really good games cost millions to make, and most of it goes to equipment and salaries. People don't work for free, and you'll see that any real company turns out quality products that can definately go the distance with any shareware. I emulate, and I'm proud of it...but don't get confused by saying that everything should be free. That's Socialist, but worse, it's stupid.
