DirecTV dragnet snares innocent techies
Kevin Poulsen, SecurityFocus 2003-07-17

Most here seem to be missing the issue upon which DTV stands. The piracy act states that simply owning such devices to enable piracy is illegal. Some of said devices are part of an ISO standard (7816). I do understand how they assume guilt if you in fact own a device to enable piracy of their signal. What I don't get is how they can include devices manufactured under an ISO standard. DTV should be forced to produce a non ISO compliant/compatible system to protect THEIR signal in which they PROFIT from. Not to mention their signal is, if pirated, on your property.
