NSA Proposes Backdoor Detection Center

Declaring hidden malware to be "a growing threat," the National Security Agency's cybersecurity chief is calling on Congress to fund a new National Software Assurance Center dedicated to developing advanced techniques for detecting backdoors and logic bombs in large software applications.

actually i think this is more to cover their own butts since they use and depend on a lot of commercial s/w and are unsure of what else could be done to the s/w since they don't always have access to the code.

as for finding security bugs in s/w - if you follow this model in the physical world, i believe you'd also want to sue the lock manufacturers everytime someone breaks into your house or car. the real problem is what people believe to be secure and the blind trust they're willing to give to unscrupulous organizations.
