This is not a case of a criminal coming into your office's open door at 2am. This is a case of a citizen walking up to the door, discovering it's unlocked, and telling you (the security guard) that it's unlocked. And you're suggesting that the proper response is to arrest him for trespassing?
That's certainly an option, but is it the right response to the situation? I don't think so.
