In order for him to find holes in network security for huge corporations like this, then he needs to also think like the criminal hacker, and then fix it to prevent it from happening.
For simple minded people, think of a crash test dummy, and how they don't use actual humans to contest these experiments. Since Lamo didn't expose any information, sell it, or damage any information, then he did nothing wrong.
Sentence the kid to a job with the government, and he'll make enough to pay that measily $300K off in a year. Don't throw that kid's life away by putting him in prison for 15 years. He's got talent, and has proven it. He's useful in the age in which we are... VERY useful. He's the counter-attack on hackers, people... what's wrong with you all.
