Verisign's 'SiteFinder' finds privacy hullabaloo
Deborah Radcliff, SecurityFocus 2003-09-19

Privacy advocates have joined the chorus of critics of Verisign's "SiteFinder," which on Monday began directing mistyped dot-com and dot-net e-mail and Web addresses to a search site operated by the company and Overture.com, a Pasadena, Calif.-based advertising company that brands itself as a search engine.

Questions about Verisign's 'SiteFinder' Terms of Use. 2003-09-23
Michael Strom
After reading the terms of use I have the following questions can anyone answer.

If I mistype a DNS do I agree to there terms of use?

If so is this legal?

If I have an unresolved link in a website can I be sued for redistributing sitefinder?

If not what if I have an imbedded page or framed page containing a misplaced link am I liable to them?

If I have test scripts which expect 404 pages and now get sitefinder can I not recover losses from verisign for having to change test scripts or change the way I handle 404 errors?

If I opt out of this service do I no longer except terms of use for any verisign product and therefore lose my domain registration?

The privacy concerns are troublesome but it seems the legal ramifications of a company forcing me to except such an agreement on a service like the Internet is quite devastating. How do I prevent typing a bad URL must I stop using the Internet in order to avoid entering into an agreement I do not want or desire to except?
