Nope I never heard of Phishing in any other term. It has been an AOL term for trying to trick people into sending back that information or account information when then they use Phake (Another term) names on the accounts to then Phish for more Accounts or cridit card numbers. The reason the try to get so many at a time is because as soon as AOL finds out about it they terminate the account. Phish and Phake are terms that have been around on AOL for Since AOL Version 1 over 10 years ago. It all expanded from there. Originally AOL Was the worlds largest BBS a lot of the Phishers and Phakes came from CompuServe or Prodigy which was AOL's Chief cometition back at the time. While I would never ever sign on AOL ever again. But back then it was one of the few ways to get on the internet. AOL Used to charge by the minute back then or 3.99 an hour. To get online to their service, which if you think about it, that is 1990, 3.99 an hour was a lot of money. So being that only the few elitist that even had computers back then we a majority of programmers they invented the account stealing, and the Phishing and Phraking, and Phaking of accounts. That way they could get online for free. And not pay AOL's rediculous 3.99 fee. Back then was an interesting time. That was when Elite Talking was invented, commonly seen today in games today and so on. Elite talking it the art of replacing Characters in a word with Ascii characters that were Similar.( ŦĦ¦ŝ ìŝ 3|ïŦĕ ) Hope that goes to html in the message board ok. But that was an Example of Elite Talk.
