Microsoft last night issued five security fixes and two patches to defend against less serious security vulnerabilities, in the debut of its recently announced policy of releasing security patches in a monthly batch.

MS software users now rely on MS to make decisions about the severity of a flaw/hole and whether a patch should be immediately released or alternatively to wait until the monthly roll up.
What criteria are MS's decisions on severity based on? These don't seem to be published anywhere.
