Ashcroft takes on foreign government hackers
Kevin Poulsen, SecurityFocus 2003-11-07

How seriously does the U.S. government take computer intrusion? Seriously enough for the threat of foreign hacking to take a prominent role in new rules governing the FBI's national security investigations issued by U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft this week.

Yes I really hope that the FBI would look for something more than just a port scan. I mean if you get the same style port scan from the same ip address or geographical location yes that might raise an eye brow but the NSA should have their back and help them secure these systems that are being repeatedly port scanned. So they scan port 135 repeatedly that is closed off at the firewall and router. What is the big deal if you have secured that port what do they find out 'port closed'? Yes if they repeatedly scan port 80 tha is open and find your web server it is the computer's owner's responsibility to secure their computer as well as the NSA's to identify this threat.

Now we all know this is not perfect world and mistakes have been made but people just need to be more proactive about their security.
