It seems to me that a simple way to resolve this problem is to simply institute a question on the site where I type in some content. That content is included in the email to me, like a personal key. If the key is there, the email is received, if not, it is dropped like a bad ICMP packet. Let me give an example.

I go to joeswebsite and signup for a mailing list. The list asks for a personal key to be entered, Maybe a number and letter sequence, whatever.

On my mail client, I enter a filter to accept that key(Accept the good, reject everything else :) Any email that arrives not matching defined filter keys is dropped.

An simple approach to a difficult problem.
