Court limits in-car FBI spying

An appeals court this week put the brakes on an FBI surveillance technique that turns an automobile driver's on-board vehicle navigation system into a covert eavesdropping device, after finding that the spying effectively disables the system's emergency and roadside assistance features.

What bothers me most, is that this can, and is being done in secret. If the spying doesn't reveal any information leading to a trial, do you think the parties are ever going to know that they had been spied upon for weeks? Obviously not. If there was at least some obligation to inform parties of the violation of their privacy, I wouldn't mind this at all.
