New charges in Lowe's wi-fi hacks

Federal officials this week accused a third Michigan man of conspiring to steal credit card numbers from the Lowe's chain of home improvement stores by taking advantage of an unsecured wi-fi network at store in suburban Detroit.

This is sadly, yet another example of some media portrayed hackers, really criminals in this case, give 2600 such a bad name. There are so-called Black Hats out there whom participate in illegal activities which eventually result in more computer "cybercrime" laws which in the end take away more from the hacker community. Eventually wardriving may end up widely known about by law enforcement officials and be up there with drug dealers, rape, and murder, just as hacker has been coined such an evil label these days. Being a hacker has nothing to do with stealing credit card numbers, identitys, and participate in other illegal activities. It is really just a shame that events such as this occur all of the time, but correctly educating others is a way to make somewhat of an impact on societys label of hackers.
