Heckenkamp Challenges Computer Ban
Kevin Poulsen, SecurityFocus 2003-12-03

Accused eBay hacker Jerome Heckenkamp is back in federal court in California this month, but it isn't for his ever-slipping trial date. His attorneys are mounting a constitutional challenge to court-ordered pre-trial restrictions that have kept him from computers and the Internet since his indictment nearly three years ago.

I think this whole process is truly pathetic myself. Take a bright young kid with too much mind power to burn, prosecute him to the full extent of the law, and take away his basic constitutinal rights. I know, in history, of MURDERES, RAPISTS AND CHILD MOLESTERS who are given more rights and priviledges than he is being allowed. I know he did something wrong, but I say it's time to get a legitimate "Hacker" profiler than can get in touch with these people. Most of the ones against him, or hackers in general, or elitist attention seeking public office seekers trying to win a "by example" vote, or technologically illiterate powers that be who are intimidated by these types of people...and wish to punish them for their curiousity, or the misdirection of talents. If I were this guy, I would get so pissed off that I would leave the freakin' country for a while and raise hell somewhere they can't be tracked or otherwise called down upon for their talents. Not disgusted by what actions he did, but what actions are being taken upon him...truly, disgusted.
