Heckenkamp Challenges Computer Ban
Kevin Poulsen, SecurityFocus 2003-12-03

Accused eBay hacker Jerome Heckenkamp is back in federal court in California this month, but it isn't for his ever-slipping trial date. His attorneys are mounting a constitutional challenge to court-ordered pre-trial restrictions that have kept him from computers and the Internet since his indictment nearly three years ago.

Having access to a computer is hardly basic rights. We in IT all-too-easily forget, that to the vast majority of the world, computers are not only uneccessary, they're a useless luxury. Believe it or not, it IS entirely possible to live a full, healthy, normal life sans computer, TV, fax machine, cell phone, etc. In fact, it's much more likely that your life will be full and normal without these things. Maybe this fella will glean what it's like to be a human, rather than a geek.
