Defenses lacking at social network sites

Sites like LiveJournal and Tribe are poised to be the next big thing on the Web in 2004, but their security and privacy practices are more like 1997.

Defenses lacking at social network sites 2009-07-11

I recently joined a dating site Seniorpeoplemeet.com on Jukl 6, 2009. The night of July 9, 2009 someone hijacked my account and sent out 218 messages entitled Hello Handsome to it's members. When I went to sign in the next day I was locked out. When I contacted the website they stated that problem occurred because I must have given out my password and email address. As I have been on the internet for 20 years I am well aware that this not not something that you do. I never respond to any emails requesting that I click to update my information and only go to the site for any changes. I am appalled that this web site does not provide access to their customer service by telephone, and an utter lack of responsibility to it's members.
