I can Recognise this hypocracy in myself 2000-09-03
Dr phun
The thing that makes me a little sad about all of this, is thatI can recognise this hypocracy in myself. 8-9 years ago when I was in university I kind of made myself notorious for the exploits that I got up to on the university network and the then-arpanet (I think that was what the australian arm of the net was called?). I eventually got the boot for my 'chunga-lives' worm that utilised a little hole in the mail daemon and the fact that the nix boxes at the time allowed write permissions universally for a few seconds after a user telneted in. It was pretty innocious and was designed to be self limiting... none the less , it got me booted.

Now many years on, I am working in computer security and I get verrrry upset at script kiddies always clogging up my logs with splattered attempts at security breaches. Usually I'm pretty ruthless on them. Unfortunately in a sense I was one too manny moons ago, although perhaps a little more clever *and* considerate.

Maybe that makes me a hypocrite too. I just don't know.
