Kevin Poulsen, SecurityFocus 2002-09-24

A raid on the alleged author of a well-known hacker toolkit is raising eyebrows among electronic civil libertarians, and putting security researchers on guard.

Having been on the recieving end of 't0rn's terrorism', I can concur. I have been fighting to get this guy along with at least 3 others arrested for 3 years. There is a difference between white hat and black hat. The key words here are 'intent'. Having dealt with this guy, whom I do know his real name, I can clear mindeed comment his intent and it wasn't to prove to the world or a corporation they had a vunerability, he had no intention to let anyone know they had been hacked or infected with anything. He attacked all those vunerable and used them for his own benefit such as web defacing, crashing computers, sending out Dedicated Denial of Service attacks to IRC servers on IrcNet DalNet and EfNEt to name a few. He also steals credit card information and uses it for his own personal gain, he loved defacing websites and was responsible for doing Yahoo and Disney to name 2 of many. I have talked to him many times and he brags about being able to 'not get arrested' he was invinsible according to him.

Gentlemen he deffinately wasn't out to help any of you out there, not even the other hackers for his t0rnkit also had a little know side effect. For every computer anyone else installed it in it also became part of t0rns other collection of 'infected' computers. If your all going to be beleeding heart liberals then take what you get and don't whine or complain, just look at it as a challenge.

The police don't want to get 'good people;. Give them a chance to prove it works to your advantage as well.
