War on computer crime??? 2000-09-14
Aaron H.
Who declared a war on computer crime? Who is fighting in this war, the government? I get spam email everyday from spammers who rape open mail relays, hide their identities through open wingate's and proxies, sign up fraudulent ISP accounts etc... These spammers have to receive payment for their goods so an address can easily be tied to them, yet they are rarely being prosecuted. Instead our ingenious government tells spammers their invasion on my privacy is ok if the put ADV: in the subject and provide a remove address.

Are these the same law makers conducting the war on computer crime? Will they legitimize network intrusions by passing a law that says: It's ok to penetrate networks and hosts just as long as you put Malicious Hacker in all your IP headers? This war on computer crime will be more dismal then the war on drugs.

It's still amazing to me that the U.S Government hasn't caught on to the idea that the Internet doesn't stop at our borders. Do they really think some teenager in Brazil gives a damn about a US law that says he is not allowed to use software that sets his NIC into promiscuous mode? h

Utterly useless.
