Those are not intrusive, that's why it is OK. And any time I can see if it is closed or not, unlike monitoring, which is completely invisible and transparent.
And basically, yes, they are waste of money and time - in a perfect world... :)
>>Also... There was a lot of information regarding Sep 11 attack, long ago before this happened, but it happened...
>Uh yea, and where did that information come from? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
Some come from intelligence agencies of another countries (Israel in particular) - weeks before the attack. At least, there were early warnings and signs, _weeks_ before (just google that - there is a lot).
>From what I've read much of it came from monitored phone conversations. And you wish to eliminate that?
No, I wish to know why it happened. So far, the monitoring didn't help (much). But that's another story...
Concerning statistics - yes, I asked about statistics on cases when moniring stopped something. Where it is? I would like to see it (however, I doubt it is available at all).
>The alternative is to nearly eliminate law enforcement all together. If the police are not allowed to gather evidence, the only time crimes will be solved is when there is an eyewitness.
Unfortunately, the police are humans. So, they may be corrupted. I don't think that elimination of law enforcement is good idea, but giving additional (uncontrolled) power to them is definitely bad idea (and this is exactly what is going to happen).
Personally, I don't care if someone monitors me or not (I do nothing illegal), but I dislike the idea that someone can use collected information in some unlawful way... Not that _I_ do care even about this, but most people do... That's where I see the problem...
