Some of you also think it's justified that if you CAN do a thing you are ok... Sorry, no. I CAN, if I choose, do all sorts of illegal/amoral/immoral things. I don't because of laws, societal morays, and a thing called a conscience.
There are two people/groups to blame with this: (1) the author of the malware; and (2), the fools who don't patch their systems. People need to wake up and understand that the Internet is not a safe place, there are things there that are bad...and I'm not talking about porn either. If the Joe User at home can't be bothered to clean up his act and patch the system when the patch is available, then he shouldn't be allowed on the Internet. It is just that simple.
As for the kid: hang him. There is no excuse for writing malicious software. That's not a wake up call, that's being a criminal. Let the penalty be high and time served be long. He deserves it. Stupid kid.
