Wardriver pleads guilty in Lowe's WiFi hacks
Kevin Poulsen, SecurityFocus 2004-06-04

In a rare wireless hacking conviction, a Michigan man entered a guilty plea Friday in federal court in Charlotte, North Carolina for his role in a scheme to steal credit card numbers from the Lowe's chain of home improvement stores by taking advantage of an unsecured wi-fi network at a store in suburban Detroit.

Should Lowes be required to put out a disclosure statement as California resident info (may) has been stolen?

What happens to retarded companies like this for implementing technology in this manner? Could customers sue Lowes?

While these fellows went way out of their way to steal something, which is wrong, the majority of brick establishments have some glowingly idiotic setup. Network jacks sitting unprotected, WiFi(any for of WEP or none at all), USB, boot from CD, unpatched, physically / digitally insecure, and almost never encryption on the best protocols. A quick look and you can find default install MS SQL servers in the back of Home Depots and banks with ethernet cables on the floor.

While I don't agree with stealing, THE COMPANY IS SOMEWHAT RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS! And guess what kids, it is going to get alot worse before it gets better.
