With Mandrake 10.0, Mozilla 1.7, and installing the latest JRE from Sun and Flash from Macromedia, normal is everything. Xine plays my DVD's, Totem plays all the Windows media files, audio and video, and oh yeah, even real media is played by the Linux verson of RealPlayer, that is on their back pages on the Real Networks site. MPlayer will run the Quicktime movie files, so there is nothing missing. XMMS is the Linux WinAmp for all the Shoutcast internet radio stations. Skins and all, including the visual effects window for when playing the music, but with none of the dumb ads that run with WinAmp.
So, what am I missing? Oh yeah, system lock ups forcing reboots, viruses, and trojans, and third party firewalls. Mandrake's firewall is built in.
And why am I here telling you all of this? Well, having started out with Windows, in the begining, I feel that from time to time, I just have to let those that are still with Windows, know that there are better things out there. That is if they are willing to take the bold step and try something new.
