On each occasion, the update app gives an error for CleanPFR (0x02), and for SetupGetSourceFileLocation for halacpi.dll (0xe0000102). It also can't seem to find the source URL in update.inf.
The log file c:\windows\KB839643-DirectX9.log documents all this.
I have confirmed that the files dplayx.dll and
dpwsockx.dll in the folders c:\windowsx\system32 and c:\windowsx\system32\dllcache are valid.
Conclusion:
The update is successful. However, the updater could not successfully clean the Prefetch cache, or find the source URL or the location of halacpi.dll. Documentation shows that halacpi.dll is copied to \Windows\system32\hal.dll .
