Some companies (i.e., dial tone providers) check the equipment you are using before they accept the outgoing Caller-ID sent. They may also validate it against the set of numbers you have leased from them. I know this happened to a customer of ours for whom we installed a PRI (23 in/out channels) in their internal phone switch.
