"What is this about? Patching is now a defense against zero-days - isn't it kinda silly? Zero day implies there is no patch..."

I think the point of the artical is that patching is no longer fully effective and that we need to look to other methods of protection. We need a layered approch to security firewall/ids/patches/anti virus to try and be prepared for something happening before a patch is released.
