Internet Snagged In the Hooks Of Phishers

Maybe it's time we all went to digital self-defense school. How else can we learn how to deflect the Internet thieves pounding on our electronic doors?

I work in the computer industry as a network administrator, so I'm very knowledgeable about security issues and safe computing. My home network is secured via hardware and software firewalls, daily updated antivirus software, hardened operating systems and safe computing practices.

Despite this, I recently stopped paying my bills online because of security issues with both e-mail and web sites. I've gone back to snail mail. At least I know there are enforced Federal laws that govern it.

The Internet may not be in its infancy anymore, but it is still just a child that needs to grow up and develop wisdom and respect for the world.

The sad fact is there are so many benefits in this world that could enhance humanities existence on this planet. But, until we can evolve past our selfish, self-destructive nature, we will forever be condemned to live it.
