The belief that domestic spying is something new may be considered a naïve perception. My direct experience includes when I was refused employment due to my credit report. No interview, just a flat denial based on data I have no direct control over. Even with several erroneous items on the report, I was still penalized without any way to confront the ?evidence? used to deny employment. Wait, it gets better, because the FCRA (Fair Credit Reporting Act) limits reporting responsibility to the investigating entity the employer avoided responsibility by having a third party do the background investigation. So instead of returning me a letter saying you were turned down due to a poor credit score (even if it contains errors) the hiring company just replied with a flat ?You did not meet the minimum qualifications for the position.?.

If laws meant to limit or curb criminal or terrorist activities penalizes ordinary citizens than it is time to challenge the law. Being denied employment is a fairly harsh result of such broad and sweeping legislation, especially if the reason for being denied does not have to be revealed.
