Almost since the day Microsoft Corp. released its Windows XP computer operating system nearly three years ago, it has been a favorite target of hackers and critics eager to stress its numerous security shortcomings.

Whether you question Microsofts motivation in releasing SP2 or not we should be applauding the release. Ultimately the offering will mean better security for everyone who installs it. I, like everyone else, wish that they had incorporated it in release 1 of XP but they didn't and they, quite rightly, received lots of criticism for the overall security of XP.

Lets move on, check out SP2 and see if it lives up to its billing. If not, then we can criticise them but lets not nail them for trying to do the right thing.
