Appeals court slams garage door DMCA claim

A federal appeals court on Tuesday ruled that the maker of a universal garage door remote did not violate the anti-circumvention provisions of the DMCA, putting the brakes on one of the more adventuresome interpretations of the controversial copyright law.

Good call by both courts, but I think the reason given in the initial case leaves room for issues to come. Chamberlain can simply state in later lines of products that the consumer is only allowed to use Chamberlain's remotes. After reading about the so called "Hack" the rolling code, while good, was not all that secure in the first place. Chamberlain should focus and spend it's money on a more secure process instead of wasting it on frivilous lawsuites...
