Had Lamo identified the security problem with the proxy servers and notified the NYTimes at that point, yes he would've done good. But once he breached the network, hacked passwords and modified a database it became a criminal action. Think about what the staff at the NYTimes had to do to verify that was all he did while in there.

First of all if you are stupid to leave your front door unlock for any one can come in. That it your fault. That why doors has locks and so do all computer systems. If you leave it unlocked you asking for trouble. What Lamo did was nothing. If he wanted to he could have done more damage. NY Times should be thakful that Lamo hacked them and told NY Times the holes they had. Now they know that there is a security problem with their Network. IF THEIR OWN TECH'S WAS ON THE JOB AND TEST NY TIMES NETWORK ISSUES. THEY WOULD NOT BE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. If these large corporations was glad the Lamo found holes in their networks then NY Times should feel lucky. It just NY Times has egg on their face and they wanted to sink Lamo ship.
