Traditional controls and data acquisition / monitoring with analog, stovepipe, and proprietary systems is given way to using networked solutions based on more vulnerable technologies - that risk needs to be managed well. The methodology and specific protection layering technology used need not be in public domain so long as there is sufficient review/scrutiny, operational experience/knowledge sharing, and oversight (industry, NRC, and DOE).
