Further example: recently, Tuesday, October 27 6PM a ditcher cut into a major telecommunications line south of Trochu, Alberta, Canada. This singular line cut shut-down multiple communications from: Bell cell phone, Telus Cell phone, home telephone lines, internet access, and Sat. dishes to TV's. Three thousand persons were left with no way out in terms of communication for approx. 15 hours. So, my point about cutting apart singularities on which a number of communications platforms ride is a "micro" example of something the UN has predicted simply through "hacking" on a massive level. To my knowledge there were no television alert warnings (as with tornado spottings which get a red alert window on television broadcasts in local areas)to indicate what had happened, to what extent it had effected communications...... I, myself was on my way home from work phoning family and could not get through either on my Bell cell phone & my Telus cell phone for about an hour until I discovered- once home- what had happened. I discussed the situation with an electrical engineer friend of mine who agrees- there needs be a circular loop in which there can be a "corrective" intervention on several points in the circle. As I have studied this model in IT networks- which is similar to a gas plant - for example- I came to realize that there was no such preparations or secondary saftey mechanisms with the line that was cut. This begs a serious question for communities throughout North America and that is- where there is no secondary mechanism to "kick-in" to gear to make-up for any singularity being tampered with/broken there is only one outcome that can await such a scenario- confusion, isolation and peripheral damage..... I have since emailed the Emergency response team in my province as well as the governement communications governing team re: the communications incident asking about protocol in such situations. Again-- the UN may not be far off and if in this community there had been a non-technical response to inform the community re: the scope of the incident (911 services too were out) that could have been a solution to people being left in the dark- so to speak. If any communications/information "Superhighways" are left in the condition I just outlined- a singularity with no re-routing - then the situation outlined by the UN could be more serious and expose how unprepared Nations, States/Provinces, Districts... really are.
