Homeland Security signals effort to promote cybersecurity chief

Reversing its decision under pressure from lawmakers and the technology industry, the Department of Homeland Security said Tuesday it supports appointing a new senior cybersecurity chief higher in its organization with broader authority and more control over spending.

I wouldn't expect anything to happen soon, certainly not before the election. Looking at the DHS web site, it seems the organization is 'haphazard'. There are 5 Directorates, but 9 Departments (which include the directorates), 180,000 employees, multiple privacy offices, lots of offices dealing with immigration, I'm sure the list goes on.

I would be amazed if anything gets done besides generating paper.
